Two shot by police imposters in Anzac
Gunmen posing as police officers opened fire on two men outside a hardware store.
A shooting in Anzac on the afternoon of August 31 left two men injured after the occupants of a white Toyota Avanza, allegedly posing as police officers, opened fire.
According to police information, officers arrived at the scene along Oval Road, where they found a 38-year-old man lying on the ground.
He sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and left ring finger. The victim resides along Oval Road. While EMS personnel were attending to the injured man, a second victim arrived at the scene.
The 24-year-old man, who also lives at the same address, sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm. According to the victims, the incident occurred while they were at a nearby hardware store.
It is alleged a white Toyota Avanza pulled up, and the occupants of the vehicle were reportedly impersonating police officers and wearing bulletproof vests.
They opened fire on the victims before fleeing the scene. The victims were unable to provide a registration number for the vehicle, stating the attack happened too quickly.
It is currently unclear how many occupants were inside the Avanza. Both victims were transported to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical treatment. Police have launched an attempted murder investigation.
