Man forced to the ground at gunpoint in Muir Avenue hijacking

The victim was targeted moments after parking the car. The hijackers fled with the vehicle and the victim’s cellphone.

Brakpan police are investigating a case of hijacking after armed men took off with a Toyota Yaris and cellphone after targeting a motorist along Muir Avenue on the evening of September 4.

According to SAPS information, the driver of the light grey Yaris parked his vehicle at an address along the street at around 19:55.

After getting out of the vehicle to close the gate, a maroon or red vehicle stopped nearby. Two men exited the vehicle, both armed with firearms. The gunmen instructed the driver to lie on the ground, and he complied.

One hijacker pointed a gun at the driver while the other climbed into the Yaris and drove away. While still on the ground, the driver was further instructed to hand over his cellphone, which he did.
