OPINION: Brakpan’s streets now lined with casinos

The town’s main roads are being overrun with casinos, luring in the poor and elderly who can least afford to gamble.

Concerned writes by email:

The two main roads in Brakpan, Prince George Avenue and Voortrekker Road, are full of shops that are now being used as casinos.

Very recently, yet another one opened opposite the Tweedy Park Old Age Complex.

There are already so many people in Brakpan, that are really poor, roaming the streets without shelter or food – not even talking about people without money that have a serious gambling problem.

There are elderly people in Tweedy Park that only receive SASSA money, but are also trying their luck, thinking that “winning” will help.

It is uncalled for to have so many casinos on the main streets of Brakpan.
