Scooter club announces route for fundraiser

The Moped Madness scooter club shared its detailed route for a three-day, 895km charity ride from Springs to Scottburgh to raise money for the Jabes Care Centre.

The Moped Madness scooter club members, who will ride their cost-effective scooters to the South Coast to raise funds for Brakpan’s Jabes Care Centre, have shared their route and stops.

The eight men will leave from Springs at 06:00 on October 22 to tackle the 895km route over three days. The lengthy route and travel time are due to the scooters’ limitations.

They are not built for high-speed travel and cannot go on highways. They also require cooling stops every two hours.

Their stops and route:

Day One:
• The scenic route of Springs to Standerton (130km) via the R546;
• Standerton to Vrede (60km) via the R546;
• Vrede to Memel (56km) via the R34, overnight at the Memel Hotel.

Day two:
• Memel to Harrismith (105km) via the R722 past Verkykerskop;
• Harrismith to Bergville (140km) via the R74 past the Sterkfontein Dam;
• Bergville to Winterton (21km) via the R74.

Day three:
• Winterton to Frere (30km) via the R74;
• Frere to Mooirivier (55km) via the R103;
• Mooirivier to Howick (20km) via the R103;
• Howick to Pietermaritzburg (20km) via the R603;
