Minnebron hijacking turns into costly scam as victim loses both car and cash
Police are investigating a case in which a Minnebron motorist was kidnapped, robbed, and later tricked into paying R10 000 to recover his hijacked car, which was never returned.
After being hijacked and kidnapped, a motorist was tricked into paying more money to get his car back, only to find it gone for good.
According to police information, the hijacking took place at about 22:00 on November 1 along Pieter du Plessis Street in Minnebron.
The victim, travelling in a Volkswagen hatchback, was overtaken by a white Audi, which then stopped, blocking the road.
The victim also stopped, but opened his door and ran away, leaving the car keys in the ignition. One of the men from the Audi chased him, and the victim fell to the ground.
