As storm clouds gather over Brakpan again this afternoon (December 1), many households and businesses remain without electricity.

Today marks one week since a severe storm triggered a widespread power outage in the town.

The storm is believed to have caused a fault at the Vulcania substation, damaging cables and panels linked to the Van Eck substation.

Electricity was expected to be restored by 16:00 on November 28. This deadline has passed, and there is still no clear indication of when repairs will be completed.

Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the City of Ekurhuleni, with many relying on updates from councillors.

The Brakpan Herald is awaiting official comment from the municipality, which will be published once it has been received.
