UPDATE: Three persons of interest identified in Van der Merwe murder
SAPS national commissioner General Fannie Masemola stated one individual has been taken in for questioning as investigations progress.
National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola has confirmed that three persons of interest have been identified in connection with the murder of Marius van der Merwe.
Masemola shared this update this afternoon during his visit to Saulsville, following a mass shooting in this area over the weekend.

Regarding Van der Merwe’s murder, Masemola stated that one individual has been taken in for questioning as investigations continue.
“We are confident that soon we will register a breakthrough, as the police remain on high alert for those behind the killing of Mr Van der Merwe,” he said.
“It is safe to say that investigations are on the right track.”
He added that NATJOINTS and the Madlanga Commission have met in recent days to develop a plan aimed at strengthening security for officials and witnesses associated with the commission.
