Collect your impounded vehicle in Ekurhuleni by January 27

Vehicle owners have until January 27 to reclaim cars impounded by the EMPD. Fees and proof of ownership are required, or the vehicles may be sold to recover costs.

The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on owners of vehicles impounded at EMPD pounds to collect them from December 8 until January 27.

According to the city, the vehicles were impounded by members of the EMPD for different offences across the city.

To claim these vehicles, the city said that owners or authorised persons will have to pay outstanding impoundment, towing, storage, administrative and any associated costs.

The city also said that proof of ownership must be provided, such as vehicle registration documents, an identification card for the owner or collector, and valid photo identification.

If a vehicle remains uncollected and the costs remain unpaid, the city will proceed to dispose of it to recover costs incurred.

“This is in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2000. In terms of the National Road Traffic Act 1996 (Act 93 of 1996), Regulation 320 provides that when a vehicle is impounded, and the owner has been traced but fails to collect the vehicle for more than 120 days, it may be sold to defray any costs incurred by the municipality,” said the CoE.

Vehicles may be claimed from the following EMPD pounds:
Brakpan:
212 Short Street, Rand Collieries.

Alberton:
4 Swaartkoppies Road, General Alberts Park.

Boksburg:
43 Reservoir Road.

Kempton Park:
1 Sarel and Albatross street.
