Brakpan SAPS arrest man for domestic violence, recover firearms, ammunition
A Minnebron man arrested for domestic violence received two additional charges for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Warrant Officer Gert Botes and Constable Jerard Prins of the Brakpan SAPS detective division traced and arrested a 52-year-old man for a case of common assault related to domestic violence on December 30.
After the arrest, the detectives received information that the suspect possessed firearms, and further investigation and interrogation led to the search of his Minnebron house.
The police members discovered the firearms and different types of live ammunition, inside a safe in the house, for which the suspect failed to produce permits.
The officers confiscated all the firearms and ammunition and booked them into police custody as per the SAPS-13 register.
The suspect was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm without a license and seven counts of possession of ammunition without a license.
Detective branch commander Colonel Eugene Scheepers applauded the two detectives for their diligence and professionalism in the investigation.
“The detectives are doing their best in tracing and arresting suspects on different cases and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for victims of crime,” he said.
