Man shot and robbed of cellphone in Brakpan CBD
A man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg after refusing to hand over his belongings to two robbers.
A man was shot and robbed of his cellphone by two men in the Brakpan CBD on January 23.
According to police information, a constable conducting patrols received a report of a shooting incident at the corner of Voortrekker Road and High Street at about 21:40.
The officer proceeded to the scene and, upon arrival, found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his right leg.
The 35-year-old reported that he had been walking home with his wife when they were confronted by two men wearing masks.
The duo demanded the victim’s belongings and, when he refused, they assaulted him. One of the men pulled out a gun and fired a shot, hitting the victim in the leg.
The robbers then searched the victim and took his cellphone valued at R2 300. They fled the scene in a Volkswagen Polo Vivo with an unknown registration number.
The victim was transported by ambulance to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical treatment. Cases of attempted murder and armed robbery are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
