Laerskool Brakpan-Oos receives school safety talk from law enforcement

Bullying, theft and respect for the elders topics at school safety campaign at Laerskool Brakpan-Oos.

Laerskool Brakpan-Oos saw members of law enforcement conduct a school safety awareness campaign on January 26.

Officers talked about bullying, theft, and respect for elders. Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager, Constable Audrey Buthelezi, told the learners that bullying is not allowed, and that children can get into trouble with the law if they bully others.

She encouraged them to respect their teachers, parents, and other adults.

“Be a good example for the younger learners, as they always replicate what older children do.”

EMPD warden Mpho Mogapi spoke about road safety, talking about basic rules of crossing the road, explaining certain road signs, and reminding them to wear their safety belts.

The team was accompanied by EMPD member Constable Thembi Mabote (a social services psychologist), CPF Sector 1 chairperson Simon Mabuse, and his deputy, Olga Joubert.

The school principal, William Daniels, extended gratitude towards the SAPS and stakeholders, citing that it is better to try to prevent unwanted situations through these initiatives than to react later when the situation is out of hand.
