Find out more about San Michele Home

Marketing manager Jenny van Graan shares facts about the home for disabled adults.

Behind the gates of the San Michele Home, 264 lives are being cared for with dignity, patience and unwavering commitment.

“Our residents are not statistics. They are sons and daughters. Brothers and sisters. Individuals who rely entirely on trained nurses and dedicated caregivers for daily support,” said the home’s marketing manager, Jenny van Graan.

Did you know:
• That adults with profound mental and physical challenges are receiving 24-hour nursing care every single day.
• That more than 500kg of laundry is washed daily to ensure residents have clean bedding and clothing.
• Are three nutritious meals prepared every day for adults who cannot care for themselves.

All of this is happening right here in Brakpan.

This is not a small operation. It requires:
• 24-hour professional nursing care.
• Ongoing medical supervision.
• Thousands of meals every month.
• Continuous laundry and hygiene management.
• Maintenance of facilities and specialised equipment.
• A team that serves willingly and faithfully.

For more than 80 years, the San Michele Home has quietly been part of the Brakpan community, yet many residents are still unaware of the scale of care taking place just a few streets away.

“This work is not temporary. It is lifelong. Every clean sheet, every warm meal, every administered medication, every reassuring word; it all matters deeply to someone who depends on us completely,” Van Graan continues.

How you can help
San Michele Home is a registered NPO and relies heavily on community support to continue providing essential 24-hour care.
