GBV awareness highlighted at Village of Hope outreach programme in Mgongo informal settlement

With support from donors and partners, the local NPO delivered aid and empowerment to Mgongo residents.

Village of Hope, a Brakpan-based non-profit organisation, recently hosted another successful outreach programme in the Mgongo informal settlement, providing support to residents and raising awareness on important social issues.

Food, clothing and treats were distributed to community members.

The treats were generously donated by Pick n Pay Mall@Carnival, and were received with great joy and appreciation. This outreach was conducted in partnership with Thandimfundo Academy.

“Their learners joined us to assist on the day, bringing great energy and support to the initiative,” said the NPO’s founder, Tumie Masolane.

In addition to the distribution drive, a gender-based violence awareness session was presented to educate residents, promote dialogue and encourage the reporting of abuse.

Stakeholders included Dick Hattingh (National Prosecuting Authority), Refiloe Selahle (Women’s Directorate, Mayor’s Office), Nonkuleko Siwela (social auxiliary worker) and the Mgongo CPF.

Tumie extended appreciation to Logan Naina from Rise Against Hunger under the Inner Voice Foundation for donating meals, and to Nompumelelo Ndaba for her generous contributions and assistance.

She also thanked the Village of Hope team, Tlhokomelo Masolane and Nsuku Baloyi, for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the success of the initiative. For more information about Village of Hope or to make a donation, contact Tumie on 073 934 7409.
