The last ride is a funeral procession in biker fashion, with the casket transported in a motorcycle hearse so the departed can “ride a motorcycle” one last time, surrounded by friends, family and fellow bikers.

McDermid was indeed surrounded by a massive crowd of bikers, friends and family, who accompanied his casket to the Garrison Driving Range in Boksburg.

Each rider was given a memorial ribbon to wear on their vests or jackets during the ride, with more than 250 being handed out an hour before the group departed for Boksburg.
