Letter: Brakpan Fire Department praised for swift response

Members of the Greek Orthodox community have applauded the professionalism and dedication shown by the Brakpan Fire Department during a recent fire incident near the church premises.

Panayiotis Psarianos writes by email:

I would like to bring to your attention that the Brakpan Fire Department has a great team.

I attended church service at the Greek Orthodox Church in Brakpan on May 10 and when leaving from the church, we all noticed thick grey smoke as the land parallel to the church was set on fire to burn the dry grass.

We were concerned that it could affect the safety of our community and the church premises.

I immediately approached the Brakpan Fire Department to inform them about the situation. At that moment, the staff were having their lunch break.

Mr Sydwell prioritised our safety and immediately arranged a fire brigade along with his colleagues to attend to the fire.

I was impressed that we have gentlemen like Mr Sydwell who are proactive, supportive and there for our safety.

On behalf of the Greek Orthodox community, I would like to thank Mr Sydwell and the entire fire department team for their immediate response and support to ensure that we are living in a safe environment.

Excellent job to all of you wonderful people.

Thank you and job well done!
