Bold and Brave Foundation doubles food drive target in Mkhancwa

The foundation's chairperson worked tirelessly alongside volunteers to ensure the event's success.

The spirit of community, compassion, and service was on full display on June 7, when The Bold and Brave Foundation hosted its second successful food drive in the Mkhancwa informal settlement in Maryvlei, reaching more people than originally anticipated and making a meaningful impact on the lives of local residents.

The outreach initiative was led by the foundation’s chairperson, Tumelo Buthelezi, secretary Sardone Sampson, and trustee Mbali Vilakazi, who worked tirelessly alongside volunteers and community stakeholders to ensure the event’s success.

The foundation was also honoured to be joined by SAPS communication and social crime prevention officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi and members of the Mkhancwa CPF, whose presence highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing social challenges within communities.

The foundation initially set a goal of feeding 100 people during the food drive. However, thanks to the overwhelming support received from donors, volunteers, and community members, that target was significantly exceeded.

By the end of the day, approximately 200 people had received a warm meal, doubling the foundation’s original objective and demonstrating the growing impact of its community outreach efforts.

The food drive forms part of The Bold and Brave Foundation’s ongoing mission to uplift communities, support vulnerable individuals and families, and create opportunities for positive social change.

Since its establishment, the foundation has remained committed to serving communities through practical initiatives that address immediate needs while promoting unity, dignity, and hope.

Tumelo expressed gratitude for the support received from the community.

“We are truly humbled by the generosity shown by our donors and supporters. Every contribution, whether large or small, played a role in helping us reach and exceed our goal,” Tumelo said.

“Seeing the smiles on the faces of those we served reminds us why community work is so important. This success belongs to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and support.”

The foundation also extended its appreciation to the SAPS and the Mkhancwa CPF for their continued support and willingness to partner with community organisations in making a positive difference.

Such collaborations strengthen community relationships and demonstrate the value of working together to address social needs.

This second food drive marks an important milestone for The Bold and Brave Foundation, showing growth from its previous outreach efforts and reinforcing its commitment to serving those in need.

The foundation hopes to continue expanding its programmes and reaching even more people through future food drives and community development initiatives.

The Bold and Brave members also interacted with the youth of Mkhancwa, encouraging them to be more active in youth development programmes and projects.

The Bold and Brave Foundation would like to thank every donor, volunteer, and supporter who made this event possible.

Without the kindness and generosity of the community, the foundation would not have been able to reach so many people.
