Police Emergency Services arrest 104 suspects in week-long crime crackdown

Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members carried out patrols, roadblocks and targeted operations, leading to arrests for violent crime, drug offences and vehicle-related crimes.

From July 3 to 9, Police Emergency Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 104 suspects, recovered 37 motor vehicles and four firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 20 arrests for serious crimes including assault, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, theft, reckless and negligent driving, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape and illegal immigrants.

Thirty-seven hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with six arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Four firearms were recovered accompanying nine arrests. In further policing, 69 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases. The suspects will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
