A truck driver was lured into stopping for hijackers after being tricked into believing his vehicle had a fault.

The victim was robbed of a white Isuzu 850 truck and abducted along Mans Street in Withok Estates at about 10:00 on September 5.

Police information reveals the victim noticed in his side mirror the passenger of a white Corsa pointing to a tyre on the truck and gesturing that there was a problem.

The victim carried on driving, but then noticed the Corsa had slowed down and was some distance behind him.

He then decided to pull over.

While checking near the back of the truck, a white Hyundai Tucson stopped and the passenger got out. This man lifted his shirt to reveal a concealed firearm.

He told the victim to get into the Hyundai.

As the victim complied, one of the passengers in the back got out. The driver of the Hyundai was accompanied by three passengers.

The victim was forced to lie down between the seats. They then drove off with him and later stopped at an undisclosed location, where they took the victim’s two cellphones.

The victim received two calls from his employer about the truck after its tracking system showed it was idling and was then switched off.

He was forced to report back that everything was fine.

The cellphones were then switched off. Details regarding where the victim was released or whether the truck was recovered were not disclosed. The incident was reported to Brakpan police, who opened a hijacking and kidnapping docket.
