Parts of Brakpan without power due to cable theft

The theft also caused damage to a transformer at the Van Eck Park Substation.

Cable theft is the cause of the power outage currently being experienced in some areas of Brakpan.

It is believed the theft also resulted in damage to a transformer at the Van Eck Park Substation.

The cables were stolen at around 02:15 this morning (April 18) in Dalpark Ext 1. The area had load-shedding from midnight to 02:00.

The theft has left residents of Dalpark Ext 1 and surrounding areas such as Minnebron and Sunair Park without electricity.

According to Ward 97 Clr Brandon Pretorius, City of Ekurhuleni technicians are aware of the problem and are assessing the situation.

A restoration time has not been provided.
