Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 26 to 28.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A thief fled empty-handed after smashing the window of a stationary vehicle at the corner of Hospital and Location roads in Brakpan North.
The incident took place at around 14:30 after the driver had stopped at the stop sign. The thief attempted to grab a cellphone from the vehicle but was unsuccessful.
• The occupants of a white Toyota Corolla attempted to hijack the driver of a white Datsun Go in Brenthurst at around 18:30.
The driver was confronted by two men and threatened with a firearm after parking outside the gate of his Shepstone Street home.
The victim’s family members came to his rescue and a struggle ensued during which one of the attackers was apprehended. Police were alerted and the man was handed over to SAPS and arrested.
Saturday – Bicycles, tools, a gazebo and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a home in Hoy Avenue.
Sunday – Two burglaries were reported in Anzac. A home in Recreation Way was burgled of a TV, an amplifier, speakers, a cellphone, shoes and other household items, while a bicycle was stolen from an address along Milner Avenue.
• An attempt was made to steal a white Toyota Fortuner from Mall@Carnival.
The vehicle was moved from where it was parked by the owner but was found nearby with a broken window. The ignition system had also been tampered with.
