Heidelberg Road claims more hijacking victims

The victims had travelled from KwaZulu-Natal. The driver told police he was pulled over by the occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo with blue flashing lights.

Hijackers are again preying on motorists on Heidelberg Road (R23) with two cases reported to Brakpan SAPS last week.

The driver of a white Tata Indica was robbed of his vehicle last Wednesday at around 21:30 while stationary at the Airport Drive intersection near Mall@Carnival.

The victim told police he was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when someone opened his car door and struck him over the head causing him to lose consciousness. When he regained consciousness, he found himself in the back of the car.

Two men were in the front.

The victim tried to overpower the man in the passenger seat but he was armed with a gun, which he pointed at the victim.

The victim jumped from the moving vehicle and the hijackers drove off. The following morning, at around 07:15, a truck driver was hijacked along the same stretch of road, near Geluksdal.

He was instructed to pull over by the occupants of a white Volkswagen with blue flashing lights. Once stopped, the driver was approached by three men wearing police reflective vests.

They asked him to get out of the truck and told him they needed to inspect the vehicle.

The driver was then held at gunpoint and forced into a car, where his hands and feet were tied with shoelaces.
He was driven to a mielie field and released.

This incident is similar to a hijacking that took place on Heidelberg Road near Withok Estates on June 22.

As reported in the Brakpan Herald’s June 30 edition (Bogus cops hijack truck driver on R23), a truck driver and his passenger fell victim to blue light hijackers at around 06:35 that morning.

The victims had travelled from KwaZulu-Natal. The driver told police he was pulled over by the occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo with blue flashing lights. He stopped on the side of the road and was approached by two men dressed in police uniforms.

One of the men knocked on the driver’s side door and pointed a gun at the driver. His accomplice was also brandishing a firearm

The driver was asked for his driver’s licence and then he and the passenger were instructed to get out of the truck.

The victims were told to get into the Polo. They were driven to a secluded area where they were robbed of their cellphones and other personal possessions and let go.
