Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Armed robbers ambush security guard

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from March 13 to 15.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A guard on duty at a complex within Helderwyk Estates was attacked and robbed during the early morning hours. The victim left the guardroom just after 01:00 to open the gate when he was ambushed.

The attackers covered his face and pushed him to the ground. They then fled with his cellphone and 9mm firearm. CCTV footage reveals four men were involved. A case of armed robbery was opened.

• A bronze-coloured Toyota Fortuner was stolen from an address along Prince George Avenue.
• A home in Joubert Street, Brenthurst was burgled of two TVs and a gaming console.
• A solar inverter, a laptop, a generator and other valuables were stolen from a business along Lukas Steyn Street in Withok Estates.

Saturday – A TV was stolen during a break-in at a residence along Waterval Street in Leachville.

Sunday – A pedestrian was robbed by three men on Wanderers Street.
The incident took place at around 08:20, when the trio approached the victim and threatened him with a gun and a knife. The victim told police the gunman pointed the weapon directly at his face. The robbers fled with the victim’s cellphone.

• Tyres were stolen from trucks parked at an address along Floors Street in Withok Estates.
