Brakpan man shot during hijacking, stolen bakkie recovered

A white Mahindra single cab bakkie was recovered in Springs after its driver was shot during a hijacking in Brakpan.

Two empty cartridges and a projectile were found at the scene of a hijacking in which a 39-year-old Brakpan man was shot.

According to police information, the incident took place on the evening of August 13 at the corner of Stoffberg Avenue and Highland Street.

While details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed, local SAPS were reportedly notified of the incident at around 20:30.

Officers proceeded to the scene, where emergency medical services were already attending to the victim.

The man, who was the driver of the hijacked white Mahindra single cab bakkie, sustained gunshot wounds to his upper thigh and hand.

He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Police found two empty cartridges at the scene, along with one projectile on the lawn of a nearby house. The hijacked vehicle was later recovered in Springs.

The bakkie was booked in accordance with SAP 13 procedures and driven to the Brakpan Police Station after the owner made a spare key available.

A case of hijacking and attempted murder is under investigation.
