Chappies eyes goals with new club

Chappies hopes to lift SuperSport United from a bad start to the PSL.

Former Brakpan Nomads Football Club player Ryan Chapman has received a new lease on life in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), following his recent loan move to SuperSport United.

The striker is hoping that his move from Bidvest Wits will revitalise the goal-scoring form that made him so prolific in front of goal in previous seasons.

It was the kind of form that earned him a place in the Bafana Bafana set-up.

The player affectionately known as “Chappies” made his debut for his country against Equatorial Guinea, in January, 2012.

He recently told the Herald that he was extremely happy to make the move to Pretoria.

The 27-year-old Chapman forms part of a season-long loan agreement that saw SuperSport United winger Sameehg Doutie moving in the opposite direction, to join Gavin Hunt at Wits.

Chappies made his debut for SuperSport United as a second half replacement – a result that went against the team, finished 2-1 and marked the end of coach Cavin Johnson’s tenure at SuperSport.

He made his first start for his new team in the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium, on Saturday, August 30.

The result means that SuperSport United are in a precarious position (currently 14th) on the PSL table, having only picked up three points in five league games.

“We need to keep grinding away and believe that the results will start going our way,” Chappies said.
