Brakpan head into the Top Six with momentum
Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV will head into the Top Six stage of the Valke Peregrine League in prime position, after a 68-22 victory over Kempton Wolves, at the Barnard Stadium, on Saturday, May 28, despite a stuttering start.
Brakpan have amassed a total haul of 40 points in nine matches and have scored a mammoth 591 points overall (a points difference of 447) including 87 tries.
On Saturday, the men in the green jerseys were slow out of the blocks and found themselves a little shell-shocked after going 14-0 down against their less-fancied opponents.
The “Panne” were forced to dig deep in the first 40 minutes, and they did just that to go into the break 35-14 up.
Skipper Francois “Bones” Robbertse added another 33 points to the scoreboard in the second half.
New scrumhalf Tiaan Ramat received all the plaudits with a hat trick of five-pointers, while winger Juanrich Botha also found himself celebrating three tries.
His hat trick means that he is now the Pergerine League’s top-scorer, with 18 tries.
The Top Six stage of the competition will kick-off on Saturday, June 11.
Point scorers versus Kempton were: Tiaan Ramat (three), Juanrich Botha (three), Pierre Foordt, Vernon du Preez, Tom Ueckermann and Tobie Strydom. Conversions: Ashley Buchler (nine).
