Victory sought in Vereeniging
Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV are still in the running to win the Valke Rugby Union’s elite club rugby competition in the region, the Valke Peregrine League.
Although they have experienced a few slip ups in the first round of the league, so too have the teams on top of the table.
Springs Rugby Club, leading for most of the first round, is being circled like a seal in the Atlantic Ocean by the hungry sharks below and their defeat to East Rand United in Reiger Park on June 10 has narrowed the points difference between the first and sixth clubs in the league.
This makes Saturday’s match (June 24) between last year’s finalists Brakpan and Vereeniging that much more important.
Both teams’ players would have enjoyed the break over the long weekend, but will be itching to take to the field again.
Captain Wikus van der Berg’s men got one over on Vereeniging when the team’s first met at the Bosman Stadium.
A penalty kick at the death ensured a dramatic 15-13 victory for the “Panne”.
Things will certainly be heated up when the two big club rivals clash again in the Vaal Triangle.
