QBR squash Panne in Pretoria

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV’s rescheduled Super League clash against the Blue Bulls Rugby Union club QBR took place at the Harlequin Club in Pretoria on the night of March 28.

The match was postponed from March 24 as a result of a rain-soaked field.

It was not a good result for the ‘Panne’ who were on the wrong end of the 46-28 defeat.

“In this game we at least saw that the team is finding their way and settling down with the new coaches,” said club chairman Harry Nieuwenhuis.

“Our forwards played well, but we need to work hard on our defence, especially in the backline.

“Things should go much better going forward.

“This Super League is extremely tough, but this team will be ready for any threat from the Valke clubs in the Peregrine League that will start in a fortnight.”

Brakpan’s try-scorers last Wednesday night were Tabu Tau (scrumhalf), Divan Brooderyk (winger) and Jo Meyer (flanker).

The rest of the points came from PJ Beukes (fullback).

The team is in for a true test when they host their old foes from Rustenburg, Impala, at Bosman Stadium on April 7 at 4pm.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the match and support the Panne team.
