Win boosts morale

It’s strange to put the words “lose” and “Brakpan Rugby Club’s first team” in the same sentence.

After perennially winning ways, the club hit something of a slump, losing a number of their Super League matches and their first Valke Peregrine League match 10-23 against NWU Vaal on April 14.

In the most recent reverse fixture versus North West University Vaal, played at Bosman Stadium on the night of April 20, the club’s first XV finally got a win, defeating the students 16-12.

“We managed to get some help in on the defensive side and things are slowly starting to come together,” said club chairman Harry Nieuwenhuis.

“The win gave them a big boost and you can see improved morale in their training.”

“We had a lekker braai after the match on Friday and that family element of our club is starting to come together.”

The team was set to play rivals Springs Rugby Club, a team in solid form, at Bosman Stadium on the night of April 25 (after going to print).
