Bellas showcase girl power on Women’s Day

The all-girls’ u-13 Brakpan Bellas sevens rugby team are all smiles ahead of their match against Kempton Park at the Valke Junior Club Rugby Sevens Rugby Day.

 

The Brakpan Junior Rugby Club all-girls’ u-13 team, ‘The Brakpan Bellas’, competed against the boys at the Valke Junior Club Rugby Sevens Rugby Day at Hoërskool Die Anker on Women’s Day on August 9.

They are, back (from left): Zoé Botha, Anell Bothma, Odette van Dyk, Zancha Marcus, Zané Botha, Michaela janse van Rensburg. Middle: Natasha Marais, Carol-Anne Labuschagne and Lé Ann Williams. Front: Crystal Mylie, Talita Falita and Jacqueline Stols.

The Bellas were drawn in Group A against the Titans, Meyerton, Suikerbos and Kempton Park 2. Although the girls did not win a match they were praised for their tenacity and determination, particularly when making tackles.

The team is led by Brenthurst resident Crystal Mylie who instigated the formation of the team.

Zoé Botha of the Brakpan Junior Rugby Club all-girls’ u-13 team, ‘The Brakpan Bellas’ shows no fear as she lands an elbow (although illegal) on a Kempton Park player during their sevens rugby clash.

The team will be playing a friendly match at Harlequins Youth Rugby Club in Pretoria on August 18.
