Business and rugby join hands

The Brakpan Rugby Business Initiative concept was introduced to the community and business leaders on the night of August 8 at Brakpan Rugby Club.

According to the club’s chairperson, Harry Nieuwenhuis, from 2019 onwards the rugby club will strive to become the number one team in South Africa again with the support of local businesses.

“With great performances in South Africa Rugby Union (Saru) club competitions since 2006, where the club ended third twice, it is time to raise the bar especially with our centenary celebrations coming up in 2021,” said Nieuwenhuis.

“The club has restructured the management side and we will have a financial team that will focus purely on the monetary side of things.

“In this regard, they have already shown their worth.

“We will have similar evenings once a month until the end of November where the idea is to establish a business network for the Brakpan community which will be linked to our endeavours to be the best rugby club in South Africa.

“As witnessed on Wednesday night we already have already garnered great support from several businesses in Brakpan that showed interest in our challenges.

“We sincerely thank all who attended.

“The return on investment will not only be noticed at Bosman Stadium.

“The new, electronic scoreboard, for instance, will be relayed to approximately 40 other similar electronic advertisement boards in the East Rand and also exclusively in Brakpan should potential advertisers request the same.

“We will be linked to the Suparugby website, which is a national website reaching 35 000 people on a monthly basis, as an additional incentive.

“The idea is also to assist local business people to get greater exposure and to interact with fellow business people in our community.

The financial team of the Brakpan Rugby Club are ready to shake things up. They are Kiewiet Janse van Nieuwenhuizen (vice-chairperson, left), Harry Nieuwenhuis (chairperson), Braam Bruwer (financial manager from 2019) and Leon Bruwer (project manager from 2019).

“What better place to do that than at Bosman Stadium?

“At the same time businesses will be supporting our teams to win all the available silverware on offer in the Valke Rugby Union and to be a household name in South African rugby – the way it used to be.

“We sincerely want to thank the following businesses for their interest and we trust that we can create something special for our local businesses and rugby going forward in 2019: A-Twin Electrical, Thabong, Barrier Fire, Post Office Spar, Halewood Apex, Libertarians, FNB Brakpan, Nirvana, Glens Plumbing, Emco Engineering, Secure Tech, Letab Projects, WH Hardware, Brakpan Paint and JR Solutions.

“We need to make a special mention to JR Solutions which already installed a security camera system that is state of the art, covering the stadium and both our clubhouses and on-field activities.

“At the same time, our special thanks go to the Brakpan Herald for assisting in this new initiative.

“This is the much-needed commitment we hoped for and we can’t thank all the businesses enough for attending our first business and sponsorship initiative.”
