Big things expected from Panne sides

The Lilywhites, and u-21 team played friendlies versus Springs at their Gold Cup opening day.

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV enjoyed some time off this weekend from preseason matches, but the club’s second side, the Lilywhites, and u-21 team played friendlies versus Springs at their Gold Cup opening day on March 9.

The Lilywhites demolished Springs 32-0 and, according to Brakpan Rugby Club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis, this team is going to be a tough nut to crack this year for their opponents.

“Allen Chapman and Jason de Kock are still fine-tuning this side, but the results are showing already,” he said.

“Our u-21 team won a hard-fought game against a strong Springs side by a score of 25-19 and coaches Dalton Botha, Ernest Durheimm Junior and Sybrand van der Merwe are doing a great job with the young side.

“We are expecting great results from these youngsters this year,” added Nieuwenhuis.

The Panne first team and second team will be playing against Naka Bulle’s second and third teams respectively this weekend in Pretoria as a curtain raiser to the Naka Bulle’s Gold Cup fixture.
