Another day, another defeat
Losing can fast become a habit in sport and for Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV that seems to be the case.
The team travelled to Pretoria on May 4 to face the Tuine Grizzlies in the cross-border Volcano Trophy (the strength-versus-strength ‘B-League’ competition played between clubs from the northern provinces of South Africa namely, the Valke, Blue Bulls and Leopards unions).
Following defeat to Vereeniging the weekend before at the Bosman Stadium, the Panne were hoping to find their feet away from home.

That wasn’t to be though as they went down 26-13.
The team’s sole try-scorer of the game was scrum-half Thabu Tau while full back PJ Beukes slotted a conversion and two penalty kicks.
Brakpan’s woes continued in the preceding second XV match when their Lilywhites went down 43-30 and their third side 36-15.

Their u-21 side was the only side to win this weekend, beating East Rand United 28-0 at Laerskool Elspark.
“Apart from our u-21 team, the poor season seems to be going on,” said Brakpan Rugby Club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis.
“The teams are just not firing the way they should and, unfortunately, some players do not seem to understand what is expected of them. Ultimately, changes will have to be made sooner rather than later.”
They will hope to bounce back on home turf when they welcome Pretoria Rugby Club to the ‘House of Pain’ on May 11.
