Brakpan to host fourth IMMAF Africa Open

Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA) is hosting the event for the fourth year running.

Ten countries will be represented at the world mixed martial arts (MMA) governing body, the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s (IMMAF) Africa Open Championships, which returns to Brakpan this week.

Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA) is hosting the event for the fourth year running, where amateur MMA athletes from around the world will participate in the three-day tournament at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre in from untill tomorrow (Saturday, 25)

South Africa currently places seventh in the World Amateur MMA rankings, medalling at the 2018 World Championships with three bronzes won by Marchell Posthumus in the senior division, and by Cassandra le Roux and Delano Human in the juniors.

Last year saw growth on the continent with the Tunisian and Cameroonian teams also making their mark on the podium.

MMASA and IMMAF board director Raymond Phillips said: “It is with great pleasure and pride that MMASA is hosting the fourth All Africa Open tournament this year in South Africa.

“We are looking forward to showcasing African talent on the international amateur platform.”

Participation in all IMMAF events earns points for athletes and teams in the World Amateur MMA rankings, upon which seeding and priority entry for the World Championships is based.

Phillips invites all people in the community to come to the centre and witness the MMA action.

Entrance is free for spectators and the action gets going from 11am on each day.
