Johnson looks to live his dream
Juandré Johnson has been chosen for the Cricket South Africa’s u-17 squad.
If you had told Dalview’s Juandré Johnson that he would be part of Cricket South Africa’s u-17 squad a year ago, he probably would have laughed at you.
Today that has changed as the 17-year-old is looking forward to being part of the national setup.
“It’s always good to know that if you work hard there’s always going to be an opportunity for you,” he says.
He will be part of the u-17 side that will play in the St Davids Festival in September.
The wicketkeeper/batsman dreams of playing the sport professionally.
“I love the vibe before the game, the warm ups,” he says.
“It is an individual sport because a batsman has to score a hundred on his own, but at the end of the day it’s a team effort. I love a team sport.”
The passion for the sport is evident as the youngster talks about his sport.

Cricket experts will tell you that after qualifying for the u-17 side, the next goal would be to try and break into the u-19 side to play in the World Cup, where so many of the world’s top players have represented their countries.
“Next year February is the u-19 World Cup and it’s in South Africa. I’ll be pushing hard to get in to that setup. It’s not always easy for an 18-year-old to go to the u-19 World Cup, but if the opportunity is there I’m going to take it,” he says.
The young Johnson dreams of being like his role model, India’s captain Virat Kohli.
“He’s the best in the world. There’s some debate about it, but I say he’s the best in the world,” says the youngster.
“His attitude on the field and off the field is all grit and determination. He’s got this lion factor in the team, so that’s my role model.”
Johnson would love to play for his beloved Titans.
“At the Titans, they call us the Sky Blues. It’s like a massive family,” he says.
