Over the years, tens of thousands of rands have been generated to contribute to the research of finding different cures for various eyesight conditions through the race.

The event, which was held in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni, contributes to research on finding cures that can assist in restoring eyesight to over 100 000 people across the country.
One of the participants on Sunday was partially sighted cyclist Gavin Kilpatrick (38), who suffers from Stargardts disease (an eyesight condition that causes the degeneration of the central vision).
He represented the country at the Beijing Paralympics, earning a bronze medal in track cycling.
On Sunday, Kilpatrick and tandem partner Andries van der Merwe completed the 66km category in 1:34:49.
The Dis-Chem Ride For Sight has over the years raised R10-million to contribute to Retina South Africa.
