Spurs’ title race ends
The second half was filled with uncharacteristic errors from Spurs.
Brakpan Spurs’ Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Premier League title hopes were ended by a surprise 4-3 loss to Olympia in an away match recently.
Despite missing several of their starters, Brakpan was expected to win the encounter to keep up the pressure on log leaders Alberton FC.
They started the match well but a foul committed at the back saw Olympia open the scoring from a free-kick.
Player/manager Jabuani Munene equalised when he headed in the ball from a Nqobile Gamede cross.

The second half was filled with uncharacteristic errors from Spurs. Lungelo Mathebula missed a sitter that would have given the Brakpan side the lead.
Things got worse when the Spurs’ defence failed to clear the ball and lost it to watch the hosts go ahead. A goalkeeping error saw Olympia make it 3-1 as the visitors proved to be their own worst enemy.
Spurs pulled one goal back through Munene to try and set up an epic ending to the match. There was more drama to come when Gamede lost his footing and could only watch as Olympia scored their fourth goal.

With all the mistakes Spurs made in defence, a man from the back had to try and make amends. Thabang Cumbane scored a spectacular volley to make the score 4-3.
“I fought well because we were missing so many players. We had to use u-17 players,” said player/manager Munene.
The loss may have ended Brakpan’s title chase but they are still looking to get promoted to the Super League next season. For that to happen they must finish in the top two. They face Elsburg at home on Saturday knowing that victory will all but seal a spot in next season’s Super League.
