Brakpan Boxing Club shines at gender-based violence awareness tournament
Brakpan Boxing Club celebrated an impressive showing at the Bert Collins Boxing Club's gender-based violence awareness tournament.
Brakpan Boxing Club participated in a gender-based violence (GBV) awareness tournament hosted by Bert Collins Boxing Club in the Springs Mall on August 1, which featured 27 bouts.
Brakpan featured five boxers, with the following results:
- Elia van der Westhuizen lost his bout 2-1.
- Kosie Roos won 3-0.
- Josua van der Westhuizen won 3-0.
- Antonio Avis Laranja won in the first round with a referee-stop contest (RSC).
- Michael Klinkenberg won 3-0.
The tournament was hosted to break the association of boxing with violence, which head coach Jeanette Dyzel says is not the case.
“Some people think boxing teaches people to be violent, but that’s not true. Boxing promotes self-discipline, respect and anger management.
“It was important for us as a club to take a stand against GBV,” Dyzel said.
Brakpan is proud of its boxers.
