Brakpan’s Bulldog qualifies for African championships

Brakpan’s Pieter “Bulldog” Vorster is heading to the African Championships after meeting the qualifying standards in the strict arm curl and freestanding curl.

Brakpan powerlifter Pieter ‘Bulldog’ Vorster has secured another major milestone in his strict arm-curl career after officially qualifying to compete at the South African Strict Arm Curl Federation African Championships in Durban.

Vorster, a two-time super heavyweight champion in the Punisher Slapfight tournament, added two gold medals to his collection on June 19 when he competed at the federation’s national championships.

As previously reported by the Brakpan Herald, Vorster, competing in the Men’s Master Class 4 (55–59) division, lifted 45kg in the strict arm curl and 80kg in the freestanding curl, earning gold in both events.

His latest achievement has now opened the door to the next level, with the South African Strict Arm Curl Federation stating that he has met the required qualifying standards to compete at the African Championships.

The championships are scheduled to take place in Durban from September 23 to 24. Vorster will also be required to attend the official weigh-in on September 22, 24 hours before the competition.

Vorster said he was deeply grateful to everyone who had supported and sponsored him on his journey.

“To everyone who supported me and sponsored me, thank you very much. I don’t have words to describe my gratitude,” he said.
