Brakpan weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from August 14 to 16.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A hijacking and kidnapping case is under investigation after a Muir Avenue resident was robbed of his vehicle and abducted.
The incident took place at about 19:30 as the victim arrived home. He parked his car, a white Hyundai i30, in the driveway and got out to open the gate.
He was then confronted by four men armed with guns. They forced him into the backseat of his car and covered his face.
His hands were bound with cable ties, and the hijackers drove off with him. His attackers took his cellphone and used his banking apps to transfer money from his accounts.
The victim was also robbed of his wallet. He was later dropped off in Tsakani, where he was helped by a passerby and taken to the police station.
- A white Isuzu bakkie was stolen from an address along Burns Street in Dalpark.

Saturday – A white Kia K2700 was stolen from the corner of Kitzinger Avenue and Park Street.
- A home along Derby Avenue was burgled of a TV, microwave and other household items.
- A man was assaulted during a hijacking in which he and his girlfriend were held captive.
The victim, driving a white Ford Fiesta, had arrived at his residence along Station Road at about 20:00 after picking up his girlfriend.
As he stopped at the gate, a black car stopped behind him and two men climbed out. One of them was carrying a firearm, which he pointed at the victim.
The hijackers forced the victim back into his car, where he noticed that there were three hijackers in total, all wearing balaclavas.

They then drove around with the victim and his girlfriend. The hijackers took his iPhone and demanded the PIN to unlock it.
The victim was assaulted on the head with a firearm. They continued driving around with the couple until they dropped them off in Withok and drove away.
They also withdrew money from the victim’s bank account. A case of hijacking and kidnapping was opened.
Sunday – A Dalpark family was robbed in their Etosha Avenue home by two gunmen at about 19:30.
The resident was with his family when his mother came into the house looking worried. He went outside and saw two armed men who pointed firearms at him and ordered him inside.
The family was taken to a bedroom, where they were tied with shoelaces and told not to scream.
The robbers searched the house and took cellphones. After they left, the victim untied his parents and discovered that laptops, IDs, driver’s licences, TVs and other items had also been stolen.
