Keep your dreams alive with Gigi
Be inspired by Gigi to keep your dreams alive this Women's Month.
Entertainer, entrepreneur, motivational speaker and winner of the 2010 Survivor South Africa, Gigi, will venture to Carnival City on August 30 to inspire ladies to keep their dreams alive this Women’s Month.
Western Cape-raised Perlé van Schalkwyk, better known as Gigi, has led a colourful life; from performing on stage, and her appearances on television to working with an anti-drug group to educate South African youngsters on the dangers of drugs.
“We are excited to welcome Gigi to our stage for what promises to be an entertaining and inspiring ladies-only event,” said Michelle Smith, Carnival City’s marketing manager.

“This is a great way to celebrate what it is to be a woman in the modern age with your friends and likeminded ladies.”
Gigi completed a Bachelor of Drama at the University of Stellenbosch.
During her time there, she did the first full frontal nude scene in the production Equus.
This was the first time nudity had ever been seen in Stellenbosch at the HB Thom Theatre.
After university, she worked in several productions for the Cape Performing Arts Board and then moved to Pretoria to work for the Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal (Pact).
For Pact Gigi did high school and primary school productions, touring the platteland from Johannesburg to Secunda, doing prescribed school works with fellow new actors.
After Pact she worked with an anti-drug group lead by Steve Hamilton, a reformed drug addict, doing a drug play at schools.

They toured Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg helping young children and teenagers to deal with a growing drug problem in our country.
Once she had fulfilled her calling there, she danced in Spellbound with American magicians for Sun International.
Thereafter, Gigi concentrated purely on dancing.
She was a member of a formation team doing dance shows at the old Caesars Palace in Braamfontein.
Gigi enjoyed dancing in a team but felt there was something more out there for her, and so she started doing erotic dance shows at clubs and venues across Johannesburg and its surrounding areas.

In 2000 she ventured back to the stage with a play by Alexander Strachan, titled Hartebees, and has since also done a number of television ads.
In 2010 she became a household name when she won the TV reality series, Survivor South Africa.
Since then she has done plenty of glamour work and special appearances.
The event, hosted at Applause@Bru’s, will start at 8pm and carries an age restriction of 18.
