Land Cruiser ready to hit the dunes

Toyota enhances its Land Cruiser 79 with accessories and names it after one of the oldest and largest deserts in the world, Namib.

The bespoke double-cab derivative available in Ivory White and Sand Beige, received cosmetic changes to the exterior including an updated simple mesh front grille with large Toyota lettering to resemble that of the Hilux GR Sport. In addition to the Namib badges found on the flanks and tailgate, the front saw the fitment of a steel front bumper with integrated nudge bar and headlight protector. Fitted to the steel bumper you will find two large LED spotlights. At the rear of the vehicle, Toyota added a tubular rear step with an integrated tow-bar and protective load-bin skins.

“The Namib Desert presents some of the most challenging terrains, and surviving in these extreme conditions requires the right preparation and equipment. I am proud to announce that we have created this special Land Cruiser model to offer customers a ready-to-go vehicle prepared and equipped to tackle the most daunting challenges,” Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Toyota South Africa.

On the interior also received some utilitarian enhancements including a cooling duct in the glove compartment to keep the contents cool using the air-conditioning system. The Namib edition retains the touchscreen audio system, Bluetooth, front power socket, power windows, tilt and telescopic steering column, remote central locking and anti-theft system found in the donor vehicle. The seats now come with embroidered grey canvas covers while the edges feature anti-scuff panels. The cabin also features a roof console which comes fitted with two LED lights for the driver and front passenger as well as two rear-facing LED lights for the rear occupants in addition to lined storage binnacle. The cabin also features a two-way radio compartment and a microphone cord hook while offering driver and passenger airbags alongside an anti-lock braking system for safety.

The bespoke Land Cruiser Namib also comes standard with an upgraded off-road suspension and larger 265/75 tyres fitted to 16-inch alloy wheels. For motivation, the Namib edition uses the 4.5-litre, turbodiesel V8, producing 151 kW and 430 N.m of torque.
