Brakpan SPCA opens case after neglected dog disappears
Inspectors returned to check on the dog, only to find it gone without explanation.
The Brakpan SPCA has opened a criminal case following the disappearance of a dog that was found in a severely neglected condition during a recent inspection.
According to the society, inspectors responded to a complaint at a local property where they discovered the animal in a distressing state.
After following legal procedures and issuing instructions to the owner, officials returned the next day to assess the dog’s condition, only to find that the animal was no longer on the premises.
The owner allegedly refused to disclose the whereabouts of the dog. SPCA inspector Mariska Venter has since registered a case with the Brakpan SAPS, and investigations are ongoing.

The society said this incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by its inspectorate, including enforcing compliance, pursuing legal action, and ensuring justice for animals.
The SPCA has reiterated its call for community support as it continues responding to cases of animal neglect and cruelty.
Donations are critical in covering operational needs such as fuel, legal costs and other essential resources required to investigate complaints and protect vulnerable animals.
Community members are encouraged to contribute toward keeping inspectors on the road and able to carry out their duties effectively.
