Veritas College assists Children’s Haven in time of need

Catholic schools follow in the steps of Saint Francis, supporting local organisations in need.

Veritas College Preparatory School in Springs celebrated Catholic Schools Week from May 17 to 22, following in the steps of Saint Francis by supporting the East Rand Children’s Haven in Brenthurst in their time of need.

The school collected and delivered essential items needed by the home.

“The East Rand Children’s Haven looks after 20 vulnerable children, and has not received the funding from the government that they desperately need to keep their doors open,” said Geoffrey Barton, Head of Department: Intermediate and Senior Phase of Veritas College.

“Veritas Prep saw this need and decided to follow in the footsteps of Saint Francis and to try to help. Each day of the week, a different item was collected,” he explained.

Monday saw breakfast items collected; Tuesday, lunch items; Wednesday, toiletries; and Thursday and Friday, clothing.

“The response from the Veritas community was amazing, and two school kombis were filled to the brim with items to deliver to the East Rand Children’s Haven,” Barton said.
