Local designer Balekan Micheal of Blekwearz proudly represented Merafong at the Next Opulent Model South Africa event, which was held at the SunBet Arena at Time Square in Pretoria on Thursday, August 20.

Micheal was selected to dress the MCs for the prestigious fashion show, where models from across the country took to the runway wearing designs from a range of talented South African designers.

The competition was fierce, with participants bringing their best throughout the evening. The event culminated in the announcement of the finalists and the 2026 winners.

Next Opulent Model South Africa is regarded as one of the country’s biggest modelling and fitness competitions, bringing together ambitious modelling and fitness talent and giving participants an opportunity to showcase their abilities on one of the industry’s major stages.

For Micheal, being part of the extravagant event was a proud moment and an opportunity to showcase his talent to a wider audience.

He said preparing for the event required hard work, dedication and many sleepless nights, but seeing his designs worn by the presenters made the effort worthwhile.

Through his participation, Blekwearz helped put Merafong fashion in the spotlight, proudly flying the local flag on a national stage.

Micheal is now looking forward to appearing on more platforms as he continues to grow his brand, showcase his designs and expand his reach within the South African fashion industry.
