A business with a unique name in Oberholzer not only sells firearms and ammunition but also looks after all the training needs related to the owning and using firearms.

GHAOB, situated at 48 Van Zyl Smit Street, was started by Morné Joubert and his wife, Delareze, six years ago. They ventured into business after both working at a mining house in the area.
‘The name GHAOB comes from something my father used to say – God het alles onder beheer (God has everything under control),’ says Mrs Joubert.
Mr Joubert has extensive experience in mine security and with the mine proto team and has always had an interest in firearms and security. This led him to VIP protection, which now helps him to advise clients at GHAOB.
The business helps people who want to use or own a firearm with whatever information and training they need.
‘We really try to give good, honest advice and service to everyone who comes to GHAOB.
To be a licensed firearm owner you first have to enrol for firearm proficiency training at a registered training institution, such as GHAOB.

Anyone who visits GHOAB will receive friendly service from the owners, Mr Morné Joubert and his wife Delareze, and their employee, Ms Maritza Prinsloo.

Once you have completed this, we will assist and advise you on the steps to apply for a competency certificate from the SAPS. It is only when you have received a competency certificate from the SAPS that you can apply for the license of the firearm you have purchased,’ he explains. Although GHAOB specialises in handguns, any other types of firearms can be sourced for clients.
For this reason, GHAOB is not only an accredited firearms dealer but also an accredited training institution. The business has two accredited shooting ranges, one being a tactical range, the only indoor shooting range in Carletonville used by the SAPS and SANDF, among others. GHAOB is also an accredited sport shooting club, which currently has 77 members. The club meets on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

A wide variety of firearms are for sale at GHAOB, while others can be sourced according to a client’s need.

Mr Joubert is also a professional firearms trainer, assessor and moderator and the business is registered with the Professional Firearms Training Council (PFTC). The SAPS and the PFTC conduct regular visits to ensure that everything is done according to law. Mrs Joubert is in the process of finalising her instructor and assessor training and accreditation so that she would be able to attend to potential female learners and buyers.
‘Some of our clients drive from Pretoria, Soweto, Rustenburg and even as far as Makwassie to make use of our facilities,’ Mr Joubert told the Herald.
GHAOB is open from 08:00 to 17:00 from Mondays to Fridays and from 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays. People who want to know more can contact the business at 018 788 2054 or Mr Joubert at 082 495 8271. They can also visit the GHAOB Facebook page.
