Local cricket player excels in Dubai

A young cricket player from Carletonville excelled in an international tournament in Dubai over the school holidays.

Lee-Roy Robinson (12) was part of the South Africa development team that took part in the Five Nations junior cricket tournament in Sharjah, Dubai, last week.
They competed against India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The South African team excelled by winning five of the six games and only losing to the UAE with three runs and five balls in the finals. They had beaten the UAE team on the second day of the tournament.
“The competition was a lot of fun, although it was very hot,” says Lee-Roy.
He is currently in Gr. 7 at Laerskool Dagbreek and only started playing cricket in Gr 4. While he has had regional colours in rugby for three years, he has decided to concentrate on cricket this year.
“He’s not the biggest boy, but his heart is big,” says Lee-Roy’s father, Trevor. Lee-Roy currently plays cricket for the Roodepoort Mavericks Club. His performance at this club led to him being chosen for the team that toured to Dubai.
