The crime took place as he was about to leave for work.

A 53-year-old man from Carletonville was shot and killed outside his home in Galena Street early on Monday morning, July 21, just as he was about to leave for work.

According to police, the man — who worked at a local mine — had stepped outside to begin his day when a gunshot rang out. His family members, still inside the house, rushed outside and found him lying on the ground.

He had been shot in the head and was declared dead at the scene.

The tragic incident occurred in a normally quiet part of Carletonville and has left the community in shock.

Police have confirmed that a case of murder has been opened and that investigations are underway. At this stage, the motive for the killing is unknown, and no arrests have been made.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed anything or have relevant information to come forward,” said a spokesperson from the Carletonville SAPS.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Carletonville Police Station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

This incident adds to growing concerns about safety in residential areas, as violent crimes continue to affect communities across the region.
