Carletonville SAPS urges firearm owners to update addresses

Firearm owners in Carletonville are reminded to inform SAPS of any change of address within 30 days.

The owners of firearms must ensure they adhere to the necessary regulations.

According to the designated firearms officer at the Carletonville Police Station, Captain Tefo Madibo, the SAPS recently became aware that some firearm owners do not notify the police of their new addresses within 30 days of moving, as required by law.

This can cause problems when these people want to renew their firearm licences, as their details are not up to date on the system.

“If a person’s address is not correct or they notify us that they have moved, we have to go to their new address to check whether they have a safe, as is required by law. This can take some time as we do not have a large staff in our section,” says Madibo.

He advises firearm owners who move to a new address to download the necessary SAPS 521 (B) form from their MySAPS app or from the SAPS website at https://www.saps.gov.za/, to fill it in and take it to the firearms office at the Carletonville police station.

They can also phone the office on 018 787 9319 for more information.
