Fire at smallholdings outside Carletonville destroys homes, several families left homeless
Several families lost all their possessions after a fire broke out at Mojas on Smallholding 59 in Wonderfontein in the early hours of March 1.
The police are looking into an incident where several families lost all their belongings in a fire over the weekend.
On March 1, at about 03:30, a fire broke out in one of the four rooms of a house at Mojas on Smallholding 59 at Wonderfontein.
Although the residents tried to quench the fire, it soon engulfed the whole building and set two adjacent informal houses on fire as well.
All the residents’ belongings burned to ashes.
No injuries were reported.
It is suspected that the tragedy happened after someone started a fire in one of the rooms.
