Carletonville athletes qualify for National High Schools Track & Field Championships

The championships will take place at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg this weekend.

Two local stars from the renowned Smithathlons Athletics Club are heading to the National High Schools Track & Field Championships.

The talented pair earned their spots after impressive performances on the track.

The Carletonville High School pupil, Mikayla Smit, secured third place in the U17 200m. She also struck gold as part of the winning U17 relay team. Representing Carleton Jones High School, Sibusiso Ndiko, also claimed a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the U17 200m.

The national championships are set to take place at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg this coming weekend.

The season doesn’t end there for the duo.

Later this month, they will join fellow club members at the Central North West Athletics Championship.

Success at that event would see them qualify for the Youth and Junior SA’s in Germiston.
